Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Stephen J. Stepp said the donation was used to purchase 40 new tactical light and holster systems, valued at $6,700, which will outfit the department’s entire night patrol unit.
The technical names for the equipment are “Blackhawk Xiphos NT model, high-performance, high-output, multi-function-LED weapon lights” and “Blackhawk Level 3 Safety duty holsters.” The new tactical light is mounted on each officer’s pistol, and the holster is specially designed to carry the weapon and light in a very secure way, while still allowing quick access by the officer only.
“It is not unusual for our police officers who work at night to conduct felony stops and high-risk searches in dark areas. In the past and when appropriate, they draw their firearms and must aim a flashlight at the same time. It is difficult to handle these pieces of equipment, along with a radio and other items, should a suspect resist capture,” Chief Stepp said. “This new equipment is a vast improvement because it enhances the officers’ capabilities and provides an added measure of officer safety. Keeping our officers safe and efficient ultimately allows them to provide a higher level of service to our community.”
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department maintains a donation account and occasionally receives funding from local citizens.
“This particular donation from Slawson Cunningham Whalen and Gaspari is very large and goes directly towards new technology that will enhance our safety and performance and is deeply appreciated,” Stepp said.
