While the nominations were due in October 2008, the 2009 Super Lawyers of Florida will not be known until June.
According to its website, www.superlawyers.com, the nomination and selection process is wide-ranging and exhaustive.
The objective of the Super Lawyers selection process is to create a credible, comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys that can be used as a resource to assist attorneys and consumers in the search for legal counsel. In December 2006, Key Professional Media, Inc., retained Global Strategy Group (GSG), one of the nation's leading market research and consulting firms, to provide an independent assessment of the Super Lawyers selection process. The GSG report concluded that the process is scientific and objective and went on to state:
"The broad range of sources used to obtain a large and representative nominee pool, the comprehensive data search on each candidate, the protocols used to evaluate nominees, the expert panel system, and the meticulous checks and balances built into the process … leave little to chance or idiosyncratic influence."
According to www.superlawyers.com, no other legal publisher goes through the unique multi-step process that Super Lawyers employs to find evidence of peer recognition and professional achievement.
Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the state are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers. The selection process for Rising Stars is the same as the Super Lawyers selection process except that: 1) to be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less; 2) Candidates for Rising Stars do not go through peer evaluation by practice area. While up to five percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Super Lawyers, no more than 2.5 percent are named to the Rising Stars list.
In other news, Yaffa spoke on January 22, 2009, at the 2009 FJA Collateral Source Seminar. His topic was titled, "Collateral Source Evidence - Maximizing Presentation to the Jury and Leaving Set-Offs Post Trial, and Other Recent Developments."
A resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Yaffa has been an attorney with Slawson Cunningham Whalen & Gaspari for five years.
